01/08/2019 · Calcium hydroxide (CH), with the formula of Ca(OH) 2, is by far the most widely used intracanal medication because it has numerous desirable properties , most notably inhibition of bacterial enzymes, antimicrobial effects, activation of tissue enzymes such as alkaline phosphatase, and stimulation of mineralization [20,21]. Calcium hydroxide cements are supplied in a visible light–cured system (Fig. 21.1A) and a two-paste system (Fig. 21.1B).A catalyst paste containing calcium hydroxide, zinc oxide, and zinc stearate in ethylene toluene sulfonamide reacts with a base paste containing calcium tungstate, calcium phosphate, and zinc oxide in glycol salicylate to form an amorphous calcium disalicylate.

The aim of this systematic review and meta‐analysis was to evaluate whether the use of calcium hydroxide (CH) liner improves the clinical success in the treatment of deep caries lesions of primary and permanent teeth. Abstract. Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] was originally introduced to the field of endodontics by Herman in 1920 as a pulp-capping agent. Sealers play an important role in sealing the root canal system with the entombment of remaining microorganisms and filling inaccessible areas of prepared canals. Calcium hydroxide [Ca(OH)2] has been widely used as an intracanal medicament especially in treatment of periapical lesion. This case report will discuss about calcium hydroxide as intracanal medicament in a periapical lesion of an upper left central incisor. This case describes about treatment of periapical lesion with suspect of infected cyst with symptoms and root resorption.

  • Calcium hydroxide has been used by dentists in the clinical practice for over a century [1]. In 1920, Herman introduced calcium hydroxide to dentistry as a pulp-capping ma-terial but today it is used widely in the field of endodontics [2] [3]. Calcium hydroxide is a white odourless powder with the chemical formula Ca(OH) 2 Bioactivity In Restorative Dentistry: A User’s Guide January 11, 2018 by Fay Goldstep Calcium hydroxide products have been used in vital pulp therapy for many years. The ability of calcium hydroxide to promote dentin bridge formation and enhance wound healing is well established.31 However, calcium hydroxide has inadequate physical properties and produces poorly formed dentinal bridges

Calcium hydroxide is a multipurpose agent, and there have been an increasing number of indications for its use. Some of its indications include direct and indirect pulp capping, apexogenesis, apexification, treatment of; root resorption, iatrogenic root perforations, root fractures, replanted teeth and interappointment intracanal dressing. Calcium hydroxide is a material which has been used for a variety of purposes since its introduction into dentistry in the early part of the twentieth century. In its pure form, the substance has a high pH, and its dental use relates chiefly to its ability to stimulate mineralization, and also to …

Calcium hydroxide stimulates the pulp to defend and repair to form a reparative dentin bridge. It has been reported that 89% of 192 dentin bridges formed by calcium hydroxide cement in monkeys contained tunnel defects that might fail to provide a permanent barrier and a long-term biological seal against bacterial infection . 03/05/1977 · Calcium hydroxide in root canal therapy. 21/12/2012 · The purpose of this article was to review the antimicrobial properties of calcium hydroxide in endodontics. Calcium hydroxide has a high pH (approximately 12.5-12.8) and is classified chemically as a strong base. The lethal effects of calcium hydroxide on bacterial cells are probably due to protein denaturation and damage to DNA and cytoplasmic membranes. The significance of individual constituents in relation to the properties of such materials and their mode of therapeutic action with respect to the dentine pulpal response and antibacterial activity is discussed. Applications of calcium hydroxide in restorative dentistry are also reviewed.

Calcium Hydroxide Calcium hydroxide is widely used as a liner for deep restorations, a temporary intracanal dressing and apexification proce-dures in permanent teeth. Calcium hydroxide is also recommended as a final obturation material for root canal therapy of primary teeth [11].
